Description
A warm and cozy Simple Apple Crumble with spiced apples and a crisp golden topping. Easy to prepare and perfect with ice cream or custard.
Ingredients
6 apples
½ tsp grated nutmeg
½ tsp cinnamon
2 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 tbsp white sugar
Juice of half a lemon
For the crumble topping:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup porridge oats
125 g cold butter
1 cup light brown sugar
¼ tsp salt
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 180°C/375°F and prepare a baking dish.
2. Peel, core, and chop the apples into chunks, then place into the dish.
3. Add flour, sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Mix well.
4. In a separate bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, cold butter, and salt.
5. Rub mixture with fingers until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs with small lumps.
6. Sprinkle crumble topping evenly over the apples.
7. Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden and bubbling.
8. Cool for a few minutes before serving with custard or ice cream.
Notes
Check crumble after 20 minutes; cover with foil if browning too quickly.
Swap brown sugar with white sugar or use both for balance.
Add spices like mixed spice or ground ginger for variety.
Any apple variety works; Fuji or Gala give the best sweetness.
Freezes well and can be reheated without losing texture.
