Slow-cooked French Onion Chicken with rich broth, melty cheese, and crispy onions. Perfect for cozy dinners with minimal effort.
Ingredients
1 large yellow onion, sliced
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
10.5 oz condensed cream of chicken soup
1 oz onion soup mix
2 cups beef broth
6–8 slices provolone cheese
½ teaspoon thyme leaves
1 cup French’s crispy fried onions
Instructions
1. Spray the inside of Crock Pot with cooking spray.
2. Layer sliced onions in the bottom.
3. Place chicken breasts on top of onions.
4. In a bowl, combine cream of chicken soup, onion soup mix, and beef broth. Whisk well.
5. Pour the mixture over the chicken in the Crock Pot.
6. Cover and cook on LOW for 5 hours.
7. Add provolone cheese slices on top of chicken; cover and cook ~10 minutes more until cheese melts.
8. Sprinkle thyme and crispy fried onions over top.
9. Cook uncovered on LOW for another 10 minutes to warm up the fried onions.
10. Serve hot over cooked egg noodles or rice.
Notes
You can substitute cream of chicken with mushroom or cheddar soup.
Beef broth can be replaced with chicken or vegetable broth.
Mozzarella, Monterey Jack, or gruyere work well in place of provolone.
Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or crusty bread for soaking up the sauce.
