Description
A one-pan Southern-style breakfast casserole combining biscuits, sausage, eggs, cheese, and gravy. Ideal for holidays, brunches, or meal prep.
Ingredients
2 tbsp unsalted butter
½ onion, diced
10 oz refrigerated biscuit dough (cut into 2-inch pieces)
1 lb breakfast sausage (regular, spicy, or turkey)
5 eggs
½ cup whole milk or heavy cream
1 tsp oregano
1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
1½ cups prepared country gravy
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. Sauté diced onion in butter until soft. Add sausage and cook until browned; drain excess grease.
3. Spread biscuit pieces evenly in the baking dish.
4. Layer cooked sausage and onion mixture over biscuits.
5. Whisk eggs, milk, oregano, salt, and pepper; pour over sausage layer.
6. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the top.
7. Pour warm prepared gravy over everything.
8. Bake for 30–40 minutes, or until eggs are set and biscuits are golden brown.
9. Cool for 5 minutes before serving. Optional: drizzle extra gravy on top.
Notes
Make-Ahead: Assemble the night before and refrigerate. Add 15–20 minutes to baking time if chilled.
Storage: Refrigerate leftovers up to 3 days. Reheat in microwave or 325°F oven.
Freezer: Freeze fully baked for up to 2 months. Thaw and reheat at 350°F for ~20 minutes.
Variations: Try bacon, ham, or vegetarian sausage. Add veggies like mushrooms, bell peppers, or spinach.
