Description
Beef Manhattan is a cozy crock pot classic layered with mashed potatoes, garlic bread, and tender beef in gravy. Hearty, easy, and full of flavor.
Ingredients
2 to 3 lbs beef chuck roast, cut into large chunks
1 packet onion soup mix
1 packet brown gravy mix
¼ cup apple cider vinegar
4 cups prepared mashed potatoes
6 to 8 slices prepared garlic bread
Chopped parsley or chives (optional)
Extra gravy (optional)
Shredded cheese (optional)
Instructions
1. Place beef chunks evenly in a 4-quart slow cooker.
2. Sprinkle onion soup and brown gravy mixes over the beef.
3. Pour apple cider vinegar over the top.
4. Cover and cook on low for 6–8 hours or high for 4 hours.
5. Shred the beef with forks directly in the slow cooker.
6. Prepare garlic bread and place 1–2 slices on each plate.
7. Add a scoop of seasoned mashed potatoes on the bread.
8. Pile shredded beef with gravy on top of the mashed potatoes.
9. Garnish with chopped parsley or chives and additional gravy.
10. Optionally sprinkle shredded cheese and broil to melt before serving.
Notes
Use well-marbled chuck roast for best tenderness.
Homemade mashed potatoes recommended for better flavor.
Add vegetables like mushrooms or carrots in the last hour.
To thicken gravy, mix 1 tbsp cornstarch with 1 tbsp water and stir in near the end.
Leftovers last up to 3 days in the fridge; freeze for up to 3 months.
