Description

A gooey, caramel-filled bars recipe layered with cookie dough and chocolate chips. Simple to make, rich to eat, and totally irresistible.

Ingredients

Scale

2¼ cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

¾ cup granulated sugar

¾ cup packed brown sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

2 eggs

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 bag (14 oz) caramels, unwrapped

5 oz evaporated milk

½ cup peanut butter (optional)

Optional: 1 cup chopped pecans or more chocolate chips

Optional add-ins: coconut flakes or dried fruit

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease or line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment.

2. Mix flour, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl.

3. In another bowl, beat butter, both sugars, and vanilla until creamy.

4. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each.

5. Gradually add flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts if using.

6. Spread half the dough into pan. Bake for 8–10 minutes.

7. Meanwhile, melt caramels with evaporated milk over low heat, stirring until smooth. Stir in peanut butter if using.

8. Pour caramel mixture evenly over the baked base.

9. Drop remaining dough by spoonfuls over caramel.

10. Bake another 15–20 minutes, until top is light golden brown.

11. Cool completely before cutting into bars.

Notes

Use parchment paper for easy lifting.

Don’t overbake — center should stay gooey.

Let bars cool fully before slicing.

Store in airtight container for up to 5 days or freeze for 3 months.
